Strong Hair, Don’t Care.

 In General

Strong hair, don’t care.

Thinning hair and hair loss are common in women, and no less can be very demoralizing. Reasons can range from the simple and temporary—a vitamin deficiency—to the more complex, like an underlying health condition.

Here are some common and not-so-common reasons why you might be experiencing this. Stress, pregnancy, too much vitamin A, a lack of protein, heredity, and hormones are a few reasons your hair could be shedding at the speed of light. Another cause could be over-processing from coloring or straightening, which can cause so much damage that the hair literally starts to fall out.

When your body is missing proteins, nutrients or vitamins, you often have a warning sign. For example, a swollen tongue can be a sign of an iron or Vitamin B deficiency. One of the most popular platforms your body uses to warn you is your hair! Hair loss or thinning can mean A LOT of different things.

A simple blood tests can show if you are low in vitamin D, zinc, or iron, all of which are related to hair growth as well as to other indicators related to your overall health. Getting these nutrients back within the normal range can definitely make a difference in your well-being, and possibly can help increase the density of your hair. Vitamins that could help your hair bounce back include vitamin C, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, amino acids, B vitamins (Biotin), vitamin A, and vitamin E.

FAKE IT TIL YOU MAKE IT.

This is the oldest trick in the book, TEASE – TEASE – TEASE. Use a teasing comb and like all hair styling, practice makes perfect. We recommend starting by combing through damp hair with a light mousse. Evos’ Whip It Good is one of our favorite go to products. It’s a light hold, moisturizing mousse that gives a respectful hold while not being too heavy. Apply from roots to end and blow dry. The smaller the section you tease, the more volume you create. Start with about a 1″ to 2″ piece of hair, and stroke 1″ inch backwards from the underneath starting from your roots. No need to go past your roots. Do this throughout the crown of your head and then with a wide tooth comb, brush out any snags.

A proper blow out will literally change your life, we promise. All you need is a blow dryer, a metal round brush with air holes in it and a light cream based product. We recommend Bumble and bumble’s Styling Cream. Apply a small amount on damp hair starting at the roots, but make sure to warm the product first by rubbing it between your hands. Section off a piece of hair about 2-3″ (again, the smaller the section the more volume), place your round brush right underneath the section at the root. Now, set your dryer on warm heat and follow the brush with your dryer from the root to the end.

There are many, products that can help you in your efforts. The most classic, tried and true being our Bumble and bumble Thickening family and their new Full Potential line. Evo has a very eco-friendly system named Gluttony, and last but certainly not least is the new Pureology Fullfyl system-vegan and color safe. Volumizing products can be known to strip color and moisture so be careful and stick with a line who has a strong reputation behind them.

If all else fails and you find yourself in a pinch, throw on a fabulous hat and be done with it.
