We have no one to blame but ourselves. Years of over processing, sun exposure, heating tools and lord knows what else. Just like our skin, we need to get in front of this thing called life—thank you Prince and take care of our hair because otherwise… it will eventually show.
We want to encourage you to get into the habit of regularly using a masque and like all beauty products, not all masques are created equal. More importantly, not all work for every hair type—masques are not one size fits all. It’s important to choose the correct one for your specific hair type as well as the type of damage your hair has or will endure.
One of our tried and true favorites is Pureology’s Colour Fanatic Instant Deep Conditioning Mask. It is one of the most deeply hydrating on our shelves here at adore. This is the ideal masque for color treated hair because it has UV protective and it instantly detangles. This masque is best for normal to thick hair, and while it is very versatile, it may not be the best option for those with thin or oil prone hair.
Bumble and bumble recently released the new While You Sleep Masque. This is the perfect masque for anyone with serious damage that wants instant results. And the most fun part about this mask, is that you can wear it overnight! A minimum of 20 mins is suggested for any magic to happen – but honestly how much do you love the idea of soaking your hair in moisture ALL NIGHT? Infused with camellia oil, this masque leaves your hair billowy and soft. A recent study was done, revealing that this masque is capable of reducing up to 77% of damage in one use. Slay science slay!
Another magical masque by Bumble and bumble is Hairdressers Invisible Oil Pre-Shampoo Masque. This oil based velvety masque is actually used before you shampoo, and works best with dry to very dry hair. While this masque leaves you with a palpable shine, it isn’t necessarily reversing any damage. Absolutely PERFECT for those with sun damaged hair or naturally coarse hair. The formula is extremely concentrated and provides very intense moisture.
Sometimes we don’t need all the bells and whistles and sometimes we just want a smooth easy masque, and that is where Evo’s The Great Hydrator Moisture Mask comes into play. This is a great one for someone with decently manageable hair, who doesn’t have too much damage. The setting time is a measly 5 minutes, so you can use this mask in a pinch! Safe for color treated hair, it just calms the frizz and adds some moisture. Perfect for a regular regimen to just add a little extra protection.
You know when it comes to dry or damaged hair we are absolute suckers for any Moroccan Oil product. The subtle signature scent never does us wrong, so it was easy to assume the masks would treat us fairly too. Moroccan Oil offers a decent variety of masques, but we’ve chosen 3 to carry here at Adore. Weightless Hydrating, Restorative, and Smoothing. All varying in degrees of hydration. Weightless Hydrating being the lightest mask available and while it is pretty light, it is extremely enriching. Restorative has to be our favorite of the Moroccan Oil family because it is rich in vegetable proteins that restore your strands strength and elasticity. And even more enriched, is the Smoothing. This is the richest mask that Moroccan Oil makes and it’s just perfect for coarse hair types and those with wild curls.
We are here to help, we are not here to judge. Just remember, masques are used for post trauma as well as preventative. So before any damage is done, treat YOURSELF to a masque at least once or twice a month! Or you can always add it onto your color service in the salon, no excuses!
