Galentines Day…it’s for real.

 In General

Galentine’s Day is the best day of the year! For those of us who dread Valentine’s Day as (yet another) reminder of how single we are, let us take comfort in Galentine’s Day. Created by the unfailingly optimistic Leslie Knope of Parks and Rec, Galentine’s Day is the day before Valentine’s Day on February 13th and is all about ladies celebrating ladies and friendship. And it’s not just for single ladies! Whether you’re single or taken or somewhere in between, Galentine’s Day is for all women everywhere. So here’s a list of 8 things to do on Galentine’s Day to celebrate each other:

1. BRUNCH IT UP

Since breakfast is the most important meal of the day and waffles are their own food group, brunch is an essential part of any Galentine’s Day. (Pancakes are also acceptable, as are omelettes, breakfast burritos, and quiches.) So take a long, leisurely brunch–maybe even have a mimosa (or two!). Because didn’t you know? Carbs and calories don’t exist on Galentine’s Day. That’s how magical Galentine’s Day is!

2. NO PHONE CALLS OR TEXTING

We know, we know–this one’s tough. The thought of being separated from my phone for makes me panic: What about my e-mail? What about updates from the dog-walker? Rest assured, emails will get answered and the dog will get walked regardless of whether or not you check your phone. Having a phone-free policy helps make the day really about focus on each other–not on work, husbands, chores, or errands.

3. GET ON YOUR BIKE

Finally get on your bike, like you’ve been meaning to all year and remember how good it feels to sweat and get your heart pumping. Grab some girls and take a long bike ride together or better yet all do a live hip-hop Peleton ride together.

4. GET A FACIAL

Facials are one of those things that don’t fit into most of our everyday lives, but that’s exactly why it’s perfect for Galentine’s Day! Galentine’s Day is all pampering yourself and being indulgent–you know, treat yourself. So book a group facial and get ready for your skin to positively glow.

5. GO SHOPPING

Now that we have gotten through the December credit card statements, grab your gals and go shopping!  We love a good outdoor mall (where you can sip and shop) and a good trip to Homegoods is worth its weight in gold. Make sure that your friend with the largest SUV drives in case you find that perfect couch or a million new throw pillows.

6. GET ARTSY

Bring it back to basics with a fun arts and crafts project. Do a wine and paint night. Get in touch with your inner Martha Stewart and make a DIY project for a household decoration. The best part? You’ll always have a lovely memento to commemorate the day you spent surrounded by all your lady friends.

7. HOLD A POTLUCK DINNER

Have you tried making restaurant reservations around Valentine’s Day? No thank you. Don’t deal with the crowd and the fussy maitre d’s and instead, just call it a night in. Have everyone bring their favorite dishes and have a yummy meal together. (No calories on Galentine’s Day, remember?)

8. HAVE A PARKS AND REC MARATHON

Spend your Galentine’s Day where it all started: with the ladies of Parks and Rec. Unwind, relax, and cuddle up on the couch in your comfiest jammiest and relive all the times Leslie drowned her coffee and waffles in whipped cream.
